Who we are
The Colombian Network Association of Natural Reserves of the Civil Society (Resnatur) is a leading national non-profit organization, whose members – farmers, nongovernmental organizations, private land owners, and conservation projects of organized rural or urban communities – are the weavers of a social fabric that articulates different territories and cultures. Resnatur is dedicated to the conservation and practical learning of how to coexist happily, in a conscious and productive way with the diverse territory that each one of our Natural Reserves protects in different regions of Colombia.

People whose life options have voluntarily taken them to declare their estates or properties as Natural Private Reserves, which are destined to conservation, constitute Resnatur. The conservation activities include the protection of any form of life that inhabits these areas, the natural recovery and valuation of culture, the reproduction of useful and threatened species, and the sustainable development. This is achieved through the search of social, economic and technological alternatives friendly with nature, whose application improves the quality of life of its inhabitants and their neighbours.
Most of the Natural Private Reserves look for their own way to improve the quality of life and to satisfy basic human needs developing an intelligent relation with the biodiversity that characterizes their territory. Every particular relationship is developed according to the local culture, and the circumstances and characteristics of its territory.
Considering the heterogeneity of our Natural Reserves and their people, the activities are focused towards an approach known as “Human Scale Development”. This method raises the necessity to produce our own visions of “development”, as an alternative to the model proposed by the prevailing global economic system, based on consumption.
